Market data: sources and methods
What the market pages show, where each figure comes from and how it is computed.
Market sessions
- Sydney (Australia/Sydney), Tokyo (Asia/Tokyo), London (Europe/London) and New York (America/New_York).
- Each centre's session is its conventional local business hours, 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. These are not exchange hours: foreign exchange trades around the clock from Monday to Friday.
- Local times, offsets and daylight saving changes come from the IANA time zone rules. Public holidays are not shown.
- Daylight saving starts and ends on different dates in each centre (in 2026: 29 March and 25 October in London, 8 March and 1 November in New York, 5 April and 4 October in Sydney); Tokyo has none, so the overlaps between sessions shift by an hour around those dates.
- The server computes them with tzdata 2026e; while a page is open, your browser keeps them current with its own copy of the IANA rules, which may be a different tzdata release.
- On the sessions page, the sun and moon marks show each centre's local daytime (06:00 to 18:00) and night. The clocks and countdowns on the market pages run in your browser with its copy of the IANA rules, with no network request.
Calculators
The calculators run in your browser: nothing you enter is sent or stored. They accept a point or a lone comma as the decimal separator; a number such as 1,500, where the comma could also group thousands, is refused as ambiguous. They use exact decimal arithmetic (18 decimal places, no binary floating point) and round results half to even at the digits shown. By default, contract sizes are 100,000 units per lot for currency pairs and 100 troy ounces per lot for gold (XAU/USD), and the pip is 0.0001, 0.01 for pairs quoted in yen and 0.1 for gold. Every default can be changed, because brokers define them differently, the gold pip in particular. Your broker's contract specification prevails. Amounts in another currency use the price or rate you enter.
- Position size
- amount at risk = balance × risk % ÷ 100
- pip value per lot = pip size × contract size × conversion to the account currency
- lots = amount at risk ÷ (stop distance in pips × pip value per lot), computed from the unrounded values and rounded down to 0.01 lot
- Pip value
- pip value = pip size × contract size × lots × conversion to the account currency
- Margin
- margin = lots × contract size ÷ leverage, in the base currency, then converted to the account currency
- Pivot points
- Classic: PP = (H + L + C) ÷ 3; R1 = 2PP − L; S1 = 2PP − H; R2 = PP + (H − L); S2 = PP − (H − L); R3 = H + 2(PP − L); S3 = L − 2(H − PP)
- Fibonacci: PP = (H + L + C) ÷ 3; R1, R2, R3 = PP + 0.382, 0.618, 1.000 × (H − L); S1, S2, S3 = PP − the same
- Camarilla: R1 to R4 = C + (H − L) × 1.1 ÷ 12, 6, 4, 2; S1 to S4 = C − the same
- Woodie: PP = (H + L + 2C) ÷ 4; R1 = 2PP − L; S1 = 2PP − H; R2 = PP + (H − L); S2 = PP − (H − L)
- Fibonacci
- Retracements at 23.6, 38.2, 50, 61.8 and 78.6 % of the swing: high − (high − low) × level after a rise, low + (high − low) × level after a fall
- Extensions at 127.2, 161.8 and 261.8 %: low + (high − low) × level after a rise, high − (high − low) × level after a fall
Reference exchange rates
The rates pages show the euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank for the US dollar, pound sterling, Japanese yen, Swiss franc, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar and New Zealand dollar. They are reference rates, not dealing prices: the ECB publishes them for information only.
- Cross rates
- The ECB publishes each rate as units of the currency per 1 euro. EUR/USD and the other euro pairs are shown as published and never rounded; a trailing zero the ECB's files leave out is written back (1.149 is shown as 1.1490).
- GBP/USD = USD per EUR ÷ GBP per EUR, and AUD/USD and NZD/USD the same way; USD/JPY = JPY per EUR ÷ USD per EUR, and USD/CHF and USD/CAD the same way. Both rates are from the same day.
- Computed in exact decimal arithmetic from the published figures, then rounded half to even to 4 decimals (2 for USD/JPY).
- Changes
- change = (latest rate ÷ earlier rate − 1) × 100, from the unrounded rates, rounded half to even to 0.01 %.
- 1 day: from the previous fixing. 1 week: from the fixing 5 fixings earlier. 1 month: from the fixing 21 fixings earlier. Fixings are counted, not calendar days, so a holiday never stretches or shortens a period.
- A change that rounds to zero shows as 0.00% with no sign or arrow; a change that cannot be computed yet shows as a dash.
- Lines and history
- The line beside each pair shows its last 30 fixings (30 business days).
- 3 months, 1 year and 5 years show every fixing dated on or after the same day 3, 12 or 60 calendar months before the latest fixing (the month's last day when that month is shorter). High and low are over those fixings.
- A pair without a rate on the latest date shows a dash with “not published for” and that date.
Currency correlation
- Pairs
- EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD and NZD/USD, the rates table against the US dollar; the pairs other than EUR/USD are calculated by myeabook from two published euro rates, without rounding.
- Daily change
- rate ÷ previous rate − 1, between consecutive days on which the ECB published all seven currencies.
- Window
- The last 20, 60 or 120 daily changes up to the newest such day (N changes use N + 1 reference rates).
- Correlation
- r = Σ(x − x̄)(y − ȳ) / √(Σ(x − x̄)² · Σ(y − ȳ)²)
- Pearson correlation of two pairs' daily changes over the window, from −1 (moved in opposite directions) through 0 (unrelated) to +1 (moved together); two decimals; a dash on the diagonal (the same pair) or where a pair did not move.
- Reading it
- Correlation describes the past window only; it changes over time and does not predict prices. Daily reference rates, not intraday prices.
- Update
- After each new ECB reference rate day (around 16:00 Frankfurt time).
Official announcements
The announcements page and its hub panel list the press releases and statistical releases that seven publishers put in their own news feeds: the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the European Central Bank, the Bank of Canada, the Reserve Bank of Australia, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and Eurostat. Each item shows its publisher, its time, its title, the summary its feed carries, if any, and a link to the publisher's own page.
- Update time
- Each feed is checked every 15 minutes. Items older than 90 days are removed.
- Times are the publishers' own, converted to UTC and shown in UTC; each item is listed under its UTC day.
- When a feed cannot be read, the other feeds keep showing and its items stay with their times. When a publisher's feeds have not been checked successfully for two hours, the source line says “feed check delayed since” and the time of the last successful check.
- Kinds
- Items of the statistics agencies, and the ECB's statistical press releases, are statistics; the other items are central bank announcements. The kind comes from the publisher and the address of the item, never from the feed.
- Titles and summaries
- Titles and summaries are shown as the publisher's feed carries them, with HTML removed; a title over 200 or a summary over 300 characters is cut at a word, ends with "…" and is marked shortened. Nothing is paraphrased, translated or rewritten. No article text and no images.
- Links
- A title links to the publisher's page only when the address is https and on that publisher's own website; otherwise the title is shown without a link. Links send no referrer, and myeabook never fetches the pages they point to.
Economic calendar
The economic calendar page and its hub panel list the release dates of major statistics and central bank decisions, with the figures their publishers publish: the actual figure for the period and the previous period's. Each publisher, what is used of it and its required notice are under Third-party data, below.
- Countries
- The US, the euro area, the UK, Canada and Australia. Japan is not shown.
- Schedules
- Release dates are read once a day from the publishers' own schedule files: the BLS and BEA release calendars, Eurostat's euro indicators calendar and the ONS release calendar. A hand-entered file, updated every year, holds the dates of the Federal Reserve, the ECB, the Bank of England, Statistics Canada, the Bank of Canada, the ABS and the RBA, and the BLS dates after the end of its calendar file; each date is typed in from the publisher's own page.
- ONS dates still marked provisional are not shown; a postponed release shows “Delayed” and a cancelled one “Cancelled”. When a schedule file has not been read successfully for 48 hours, the source line says “schedule not checked since” and the time of the last success.
- Times
- In UTC. “TBC”: the publisher has not announced the time yet. “Time not published”: the publisher gives the date only. A release with a time is listed under its UTC day; a release without one stays on the publisher's own date in every time zone.
- Values
- Actual: the publisher's figure for the period, as first seen after the release time. Previous: the publisher's current figure for the period before. “Revised from”: that figure as it stood before the release, from myeabook's own record of earlier fetches, shown when the two differ at the digits shown.
- A dash: not published yet. “Not available yet”: no figure by the end of the polling window; myeabook keeps looking and shows the figure when it arrives. “No value source”: no figure is fetched for that release.
- Each figure is one the publisher itself publishes (a level, a rate, an index, a published change or the BLS's own calculation), at the precision it publishes; myeabook calculates no change.
- Polling windows
- A release with a time is checked every five minutes for six hours from that time; a release without one from 00:00 on its date to 06:00 the next day, in the publisher's time zone. Outside these windows each publisher's figures are read again every six hours, which also brings in the previous period's figure before a release.
- Rate decisions
- The rate decided, on the announcement's row, with the day it takes effect when the rate changed: the ECB's deposit facility rate (a hold is confirmed by the daily rate a week after the meeting) and the Bank of Canada's target for the overnight rate (a new rate takes effect the next day). Previous: the rate in force before the decision.
- The Bank of England's Bank Rate is typed in by hand from the Bank's announcement on the decision day; nothing is fetched from the Bank. Until it is entered the row shows a dash, then “Not available yet” once six hours have passed since the announcement time. The Federal Reserve and the RBA have no value source: their rows show the dates only.
- Periods
- The period shown before a release follows that release's usual timing; on release, the publisher's own period replaces it.
- Importance
- High: central bank rate decisions; headline consumer price inflation (US, euro area flash estimate, UK, Canada, Australia); payrolls and unemployment rates; first estimates of quarterly GDP (US, euro area preliminary flash, Australia).
- Medium: other price measures (US core CPI, PPI and PCE prices; euro area inflation after the flash estimate); labour costs (the US employment cost index); monthly GDP (UK, Canada).
- Low: job openings and retail sales (US job openings, Great Britain retail sales, Canada retail trade).
- The classification is myeabook's own, shown as one to three bars.
- Not on the calendar
- Consensus forecasts are not shown: the official publishers do not publish them.
Weekly futures positioning
- Reports and categories
- Gold: Disaggregated report, futures only, managed money (COMEX gold, contract 088691; Micro Gold, 088695, is a separate contract and is not included). Currencies: Traders in Financial Futures report, futures only, leveraged funds (CME euro 099741, Japanese yen 097741, British pound 096742, Swiss franc 092741, Australian dollar 232741, Canadian dollar 090741, New Zealand dollar 112741, Mexican peso 095741).
- Net position
- net = long − short
- contracts of that category.
- Share of open interest
- net ÷ open interest
- of all traders in the contract, so markets of different size compare; one decimal.
- Week change
- change in long − change in short
- as the CFTC reports them: this week's net minus the previous week's as published; part of a week's change can come from the CFTC reclassifying a trader rather than from trading.
- Direction against the MetaTrader pair
- CME currency futures are the currency against the US dollar. For the euro, the pound, the Australian and the New Zealand dollar a long position is long the MetaTrader pair (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZD/USD); for the yen, the Swiss franc, the Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso the pair quotes the dollar first (USD/JPY, USD/CHF, USD/CAD, USD/MXN), so a net long yen position leans against USD/JPY. Gold is XAU/USD.
- Who is counted
- Large reportable traders only, about 70–90 % of open interest. The CFTC classifies traders by who they are, not by why they trade; these categories are not the older commercial and non-commercial split, and the sign can differ from it. A weekly snapshot as of Tuesday; not retail sentiment.
- Reading it
- Futures only; nothing here predicts prices.
- Release schedule
- Released by the CFTC at 15:30 New York time, on Friday, or on Monday after a US federal holiday (2026: 5 January, 22 June, 6 July, 16 November, 30 November, 28 December), per the CFTC's published schedule. Where the CFTC has not yet published its schedule, the expected day follows that pattern and is marked as expected. The release day shown is the scheduled day. A release still missing 24 hours after its scheduled time is noted on the page.
- Next release: Fri 6 Nov 2026, 15:30 ET (CFTC schedule).
- Corrections
- Each check re-reads the last four weeks, so a correction by the CFTC replaces the stored figures.
Third-party data
European Central Bank
- Publisher and data
- European Central Bank (ECB), euro foreign exchange reference rates: one rate per currency and TARGET business day. myeabook reads them from the ECB Data Portal, or from the reference-rate files on the ECB's website when the portal does not answer; both are publications of the ECB itself.
- Licence
- The ECB allows the reuse of information obtained from its website, with the ECB cited as the source: ECB disclaimer and copyright.
- Required notice
- Source: European Central Bank, euro foreign exchange reference rates. USD cross rates and changes calculated by myeabook.
- What myeabook changes
- The pairs against the US dollar other than EUR/USD are calculated by myeabook from two published euro rates and rounded to the digits shown; the 1-day, 1-week and 1-month changes, the lines and the highs and lows are calculated by myeabook too (Reference exchange rates, above). This is a modification of the ECB data. The euro pairs are shown as published and never rounded; a trailing zero the ECB's files leave out is written back. The correlation matrices are calculated by myeabook from the same euro reference rates (the daily changes of the seven pairs against the US dollar); this too is a modification of the ECB data.
- Update time
- The ECB publishes the rates around 16:00 Frankfurt time on every TARGET business day, and myeabook looks for them from then on. TARGET closing days have no rate: Saturdays, Sundays, 1 January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, 25 December and 26 December. When a business day's rates are still missing two hours after their usual publication time, the source line says “Not updated since” and the date of the latest rates.
